We’re going to talk about Xeomin today because it’s time to party, Texas! But if you’ve been hunkered down in your home for the last two years, you may be feeling a little uncomfortable about the changes that have taken place on your face. And although there’s been a lot to frown about, those frown lines don’t have to be one of them! That’s where Xeomin is going to play its part. You may have noticed that there are a lot of options on the market for smoothing out wrinkles and frown lines. Botox used to be the go-to to kick out the “elevens” that rest between your eyebrows. But a lot of people are wary of Botox because it has a reputation for creating a hard frozen look. The truth is that Botox has come a long way since then, but there’s still some room for improvement. So if you’re not ready for Botox, we have another frown line solution that may be right up your alley, Xeomin. We know that Xeomin is new to many of you, so let’s get some of those nagging questions answered! What is Xeomin? Xeomin is an FDA-approved injection that’s similar to Botox. It’s a neurotoxin that’s injected into muscles to improve the look of moderate to severe “elevens,” forehead lines, and crow’s feet. How Does it Work? To understand how Xeomin works, we’ll first need to understand what makes frown lines. The cause of frown lines isn’t just a bad mood or some serious confusion! Your muscles are the mechanism that expresses those emotions. If your muscles repeatedly contract under your skin, then your skin starts to take on frown lines. A Xeomin® injection blocks the release of chemicals that cause muscle contractions, which softens frown lines. Because Xeomin is a neurotoxin, we get a lot of people asking us, “Is Xeomin like Botox?” The answer is “yes and no.” Unlike Botox, Xeomin contains a naked form of botulinum toxin. In this context, “naked” means it contains no protein additives. So why do you want your neurotoxin injections to be naked? Recently, doctors and researchers began to notice that some people who consistently get Botox injections develop an antibody resistance to it. A uniquely purified structure of botulinum toxin like Xeomin may therefore prevent this antibody resistance – which means you can use it to prevent wrinkles long term. Patients have also commented on how Xeomin feels. Many patients have said that it feels much lighter and more natural than Botox. Moreover, it has a reputation for smoothing forehead wrinkles and frown lines while still retaining a good range of motion in your eyebrows. And you know what that means – no “frozen” look! Is Xeomin Natural? Since it’s made of a naturally occurring substance and contains no additives, Xeomin is considered to be natural. How Long Does it Take For Xeomin to Work? Of course you want to know the answer to this question! We’re all ready to go out for a night on the town and feel like our best selves again. And with Xeomin, you won’t have to wait long. Visible smoothing can be seen as early as 3-4 days after your first injection. And you’ll look rocking good within 30 days. You can expect the results to last for about three months. Is Xeomin Safe? Does the word neurotoxin freak you out? That’s not unusual. After all, toxins are bad for us, right? In this case, neurotoxins aren’t necessarily bad. Xeomin has been used around the world since 2005 and got its FDA approval in 2011. The American Academy of Facial Esthetics states that Xeomin has been used by more than 84,000 people worldwide. That gives it a solid track record. However, as with all injectables and prescription medications, Xeomin does have some risks and side effects. Mild side effects can include: redness or pain around the injection site itchy skin rash headache dry mouth tiredness neck pain muscle weakness eye problems Less common but more severe and possibly life-threatening side effects can include: problems with swallowing or breathing spread of toxin effects to other areas, resulting in botulism an allergic reaction wheezing or asthma You and your provider will need to go over all of your medical conditions, medications, and any reactions that you’ve had to botulinum toxins in the past. What to Expect During a Xeomin Treatment? If you’ve had Botox treatments in the past, then you know the drill. 1 First, your provider will talk with you about your concerns and goals to decide if Xeomin is the right solution for your unique problem. 2 At this point, your provider will make suggestions on how to best use Xeomin and possibly other products to give you the look that you want. 3 Then your provider will ask you a lot of questions to make sure that your body and Xeomin are going to get along well. If your provider has no concerns, then it’s time to get injecting! A Xeomin treatment usually takes about 10-20 minutes. During this time, you sit back and relax while your provider injects Xeomin into the targeted muscles in your forehead. Most people don’t find the injections painful. If you’re concerned, your provider can use a topical anesthetic or a cold pack to minimize any discomfort. Xeomin treatments require no anesthesia. How Many Xeomin Treatments Will You Need? Here’s some great news – unless you have severe folds and lines, then you’ll probably only need one treatment to see your desired results. The numbers of units of Xeomin needed to treat a certain area of the face will differ from patient to patient, so costs vary. The average fees for treatments of Xeomin in Austin are around $200-300 per area, with Xeomin being slightly more cost-effective than BOTOX. It’s time to get out and enjoy life again! Don’t let those frown lines get you down!
